My word for 2017

2 Jan

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on my blog. It’s been over a year since I’ve posted to a blog and well over 4 years since I’ve posted to this blog. I have missed my blog and creative time. Recommitting to posting and sharing.

I joined Ali Edwards class One Little Word.  My word for 2017 is, Affect.

Affect defined: Influence, affect emotionally. Have an affect on, influence, act on, work on, have an impact on, impact, change, alter, modify, transformation, form, shape, sway…

Once I started thinking of my word for this year. This one hit me like a ton of bricks. We have some up coming new adventures for 2017 that I’m so excited for.

Excited to see what 2017 has in store. 2016 was full of many blessings and a little heart ache. But the love and blessings have over shadowed everything else.

Im reopening a old blog…  my original blog I started with, Moe Joe Designs. Please follow me there.

I’ve been creating…

1 Jan

Here are a few cards that I made this past week. I have several more to make and get in the mail. I’ve also taken some time to draw/doodle.

I took me 45 minutes from start to finish to draw and color her. Sorry about the glare on her eye.

I’ll have more posts to share later this week and hoping that they will be more consistent.

Blessings,

Mary

Scarpbook page / wall art

15 Nov

I created this page to hang in my studio/office.  My bestie Josh and I did a photo shoot this summer and this is one of the shots that he took. It’s one of my all time favorites. I have been doing quite a few art pieces. Since my paints were out I decided to add to my page. Orange is such a bright, creative and vibrant color.  And there has to be some sort of blue-green color on my page. =)

Adventure in creating

5 Nov

This is a commissioned piece of art that I’m working on. It’s a mixed media piece. This is as close to abstract as I get. Normally my paintings are of landscapes or people in a more two dimensional style similar to cartooning. So doing mixed media is liberating because you can break all the rules.  Like I tell my art students and my boys.  There is no right or wrong when it comes to art. I normally don’t share my work but, Samuel, my youngest son challenged me to share what I create. He is so happy that I followed his advise. =)  I am hoping to have this finished in the next two weeks and will add a few updates (hopefully).  I will defiantly add the finished piece when completed.

I had some scrap papers on my desk so I created this card. The image is from the Greeting Farm, and the little boy reminds me of my boys many years ago when they 5 yrs old. I used my Copics to color the image. I also used different modeling techniques to create texture, highlights, and shadows within a flat image.  My light source was facing the boy head on, so most of my highlights are towards the middle or close to where any curves are to give the illusion of dimension.

I used Lawn Fawn stamps to create this card along with some Lily Bee papers.

More Lawn Fawn.

And more Lawn Fawn. =)

Wisdom from an old artist

26 Oct

While visiting the art museum when I was in St. Louis. I met a 73 year old artist. He was sitting outside painting a statue. His technique was easy and free flowing. He was confident with every stroke of the brush. His face was content. His eyes were knowing. When I approached him, he was kind and patient while I asked questions.

“The most important thing to remember is that your brush is an extension of your arm, of your eyes, your perspective. You don’t have to over think every stroke, you should paint what you see and what you feel. Your stokes should convey emotion and each stoke will  build your picture.  There is no right or wrong. This is art, your perspective on the world. You have to start by applying that first brush stroke.”

As he shared his wisdom with me. I was reminded of some news that I was given that wasn’t as positive as I’d like.

Right now I think of my life as a series of brush strokes and wondering what the Lord has in store, what his final portrait of my life is going to be.  My only conclusion to my thought was that of trust and dependancy. I don’t understand the path that God has me on. All I know is I have choice to trust. And I will choose to trust in him even though I don’t know what the out come will be.

The old artist I met has inspired me no only in my art but also in the choices that I make. My life is art and what I need to reflect is my perspective on the world.

Blessings!

I’m back

24 Oct

I went to St. Louis this past weekend to spend some time with my friend. Plus I needed to get away for a bit. This past year has been one challenge after another. I recently received a not so good report from my Dr. I have been in a season of full dependency on God. Now my boys and I have the opportunity to grow and trust in God like never before. =)  We serve a great and mighty God and His ways are perfect and just.  =)

Going to St. Louis by myself was a much needed adventure. I was able to explore St. Louis and get lost. For those of you who know me, I am already directionally challenged. LOL! But I got lost on purpose. I was able to visit art museums, parks and stop and take photos when ever the mood struck. When Kelly got off work we did some more exploring.  Too much fun!

I was also able to do a photo shoot with Kelly. Here are a few pictures.

Kelly took this photo of me. =)

There is tons more to share. But we’ll save that for another day.  Thanks for stopping by and I’ll post some crafty stuff later this week.

Amuse Studio and Creative eye candy

19 Oct

We created this card at a workshop a few weeks ago.  We used tombow dye based markers. Super easy to create. =)

Our semester is 1/2 over. Things are super busy and most of my creative energy is used up and stretched due to school.  I have more cards to share with you in the next few days. =)

Thanks for stopping by,

Mary

Photo shoot from last weekend

16 Oct

Last weekend I have a photo shoot with this beautiful family.  I used this template that I found on line to enhance the photo.  I still have to edit and add journaling.

This one is all about bringing the outdoor elements into my design.

This one has  a more modern flare.

Blessings,
Mary
